The project UPFC installation site is 220kV Tiebei Station, which contains three inverters, rated capacity 3 & TImes; 60MVA. Since it was put into operation on December 11, 2015, Nanjing West Loop Network UPFC has transformed the power grid from natural distribution to intelligent and flexible control, which has greatly balanced the trend of Nanjing West Ring Network and effectively avoided the South under various load levels. The line and section of the northern transmission channel are more limited, which relieves the pressure of operation control, operation and maintenance, and other work. Through cross-section monitoring, early defense, joint control and other measures, the power supply safety of the power grid in the core area of ​​Nanjing has been greatly guaranteed, and the economic losses caused by the power cuts imposed by the power supply capacity in the core area have been avoided.
The project replaced the construction of a conventional transmission channel with an investment of about 900 million yuan. During the operation period, the power supply capacity of Nanjing West Ring Network could be increased by 500,000 to 600,000 kilowatts, which greatly promoted the rapid development of Nanjing's economy.
Experts at home and abroad highly praised the applicability, innovation and leadership of the Nanjing UPFC project, and fully affirmed China's exploration spirit, scientific research capabilities and many achievements in the fields of flexible AC and DC transmission and smart grid engineering construction. At present, the four IEC and IEEE international standards based on the project R&D and application results, which were initiated by the State Grid Jiangsu Electric Power Research Institute, have all been approved, laying the foundation for the internationalization and application of the innovation results.
