Recently, Ericsson released the 2016 mobile communication market research report.
Communication data analysisThe report predicts that the total number of 5G users worldwide will reach 550 million in 2022, covering approximately 10% of the global population. North America will rank first in the world with 5G coverage, which accounts for a quarter of the total population, but most of them are LTE users, accounting for more than 60%.
Secondly, in the Asia-Pacific region, Ericsson predicts that Asia-Pacific will become the second fastest growing region for 5G users. The report points out that by 2022, 5G users in the Asia-Pacific region will account for 10% of all users, and most of them will still be LTE users, accounting for 50%.
For the Middle East and Africa, Ericsson predicts that from 2016 to 2022, the two regions will achieve a major upgrade in mobile standards: from GSM/EDGE subscriber-majority to 80% WCDMA/LTE subscribers.
According to the report, the total number of smartphone users worldwide is about 3.9 billion, of which nearly 90% are WCDMA/LTE users. By 2022, this number will increase to 6.8 billion, with the total user base of WCDMA, LTE and 5G networks exceeding 95%. The report also pointed out that with the rapid development of the mobile Internet industry, more than 90% of the global data traffic will come from the mobile end by 2022.
Ulf Ewaldsson, president of Ericsson's strategic layout and technology development, said in an interview: "At present, nearly 90% of smartphone users worldwide are using 3G/4G networks. We expect standardized 5G networks to be launched around 2020. At present, the major operators in the world have shown great interest in promoting 5G networks. 5G will accelerate the digital transformation of many industries and create new development opportunities in the fields of Internet of Things, automation, mass transportation and big data."
According to the statistics in the report, in the third quarter of 2016, the number of new mobile users in the world reached 84 million, with a total volume of 7.5 billion, a year-on-year increase of about 3%. The region with the highest net growth in the quarter was India (15 million new), followed by China (14 million new), Indonesia (6 million new), Myanmar (new 4 million) and the Philippines (new 4 million). It can be seen that the Asia Pacific region has shown strong growth momentum. The report pointed out that the continuous growth of mobile data traffic is mainly due to the increase in the number of smartphone users and the continuous increase in the average data usage per user. Among them, global data traffic in the third quarter of 2016 increased by 50% compared to voice traffic.
