For the EU RoHS China issued six testing standards

The AQSIQ and the National Certification and Accreditation Administration have officially issued six test method standards for the EU RoHS Directive, which will be implemented on January 18, 2006. A list of 18 laboratories undertaking the task of testing toxic and hazardous substances in electrical and electronic products was also announced.

The standards of these six test methods were drafted by the Shenzhen Inspection and Quarantine Bureau and passed expert appraisal. They are directed to six restricted substances by atomic fluorescence spectrometry, flame atomic absorption spectrometry, diphenylcarbazide spectrophotometry, X-ray fluorescence spectrometry, HPLC and GC-MS. On January 27, 2003, the European Union passed the "Directive on the Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Materials in Electrical and Electronic Equipment" (RoHS Directive), requiring that from July 1, 2006, the electrical and electronic equipment entering Europe should not contain lead. Six hazardous substances: mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls and polybrominated diphenyl ethers. The ban on PBBs, PBDEs and heavy metals in the Directive has essentially shifted environmental pressures from electromechanical producers to suppliers of plastic components, resin raw materials and additives.
