Domestic manufacturers showcase the world's brightest MicroLED display: 1 million nits

MicroLED is the latest direction of the industry's screen technology. Compared with OLED, its LED unit is less than 100μm, which solves the problem of burn-in screen and has a longer life. At the same time, the module thickness can be thinner, lower power consumption, brightness, screen response time, resolution, and display effects are far superior to OLED.

Samsung, LG, TSMC, etc. have shifted the focus of their next technology exploration to MicroLED. At SID Display Week in June, Jade Bird Display (JBD) from Hong Kong showed the world's brightest MicroLED display, up to 1 million nits (nits is the unit of brightness, 1nit = 1 cd/m2) with a resolution of 2560x1920.

Another piece of MicroLED screen that is playing Kung Fu Panda has a fineness of 5000 PPI and a brightness of 1000 nits.

According to the JBD CEO, the ultra-bright MicroLED will be used in lithography, 3D printing, projectors, head-up display (HUD) and augmented reality (AR).

In terms of commercial progress, it is already possible to produce on a wafer basis, but it will take a lot of effort to mass-produce and make the price 10 to 20 dollars.

As a display technology that has only been active in the past few years, some organizations have predicted that the market size of MicroLED will reach 600 million US dollars in 2019, and will increase exponentially after 2019. Some markets will From smart watches and NTE devices including enhancements and virtual reality, smartphones, televisions, humanitarian devices, digital signage, laptops and monitors, and applications such as general and automotive lighting.

According to relevant survey data, the global market value of MicroLED display will reach 22.9 million US dollars in 2018. Allied Market Research estimates that the MicroLED display market will reach $1,945.6 million in 2025. This also means that from 2018 to 2025, the market's compound annual growth rate will reach 89.2%.

According to Allied Market Research, the Asia-Pacific region currently dominates the global MicroLED display market. Among them, China is expected to be the market with the highest growth rate in the Asia Pacific region in 2018. However, in 2018, German market demand is expected to be the highest in Europe's overall market demand. The US market is expected to become the driving force for growth in the North American market in 2018.

United Market Research expects that the industry's growing demand for brighter, more energy-efficient displays and the trend of global electronics giants moving toward MicroLED displays are the main drivers of the growing global MicroLED display market. However, the high cost of MicroLED displays will limit the growth of this market.

Major manufacturers in the MicroLED market include Apple, Samsung, Sony, LG Display, Oculus, Play Nitride, VueReal, eLUX, Rohinni LLC and Aledia.
