At present, purchasers generally are mostly business people over the age of 35, and are usually purchased as gifts.

Single function difficult to promote

The single function of e-books has always been fatal, and expensive prices have made it difficult for many consumers to make up their minds. The price of an ordinary e-book is generally over a thousand dollars, and the price of high-end e-books is almost the same as an Apple iPad that integrates various entertainment functions.

Taking Hanwang Technology, the leading electronic book in China, as an example, the lowest price of the brand e-books is 1199 yuan each, and the high-end ones reach 3,580 yuan each, and the lowest price of the Apple iPad is currently around 4,000 yuan. According to the data released by Apple, iPad sold as many as 3 million units in just 80 days, and its users can even download 250,000 e-books at Apple's e-bookstore in a single day. From the consumer point of view, of course, is more inclined to choose more powerful iPad.

In fact, current mobile phones, netbooks and even tablets have powerful "reading" features. Wang Dongmei, secretary general of the Shenzhen Computer Industry Association, once expressed that he is not optimistic about the prospects of e-books. She thinks that if e-ink technology is applied to mobile phones, notebook computers and other handheld terminals, e-books will not have much value.

Price reduction is not a long-term approach

In fact, domestic e-book manufacturers have long realized this and have started to cut prices.

According to Li Yuanjian, head of the Shenzhen Suning Appliance OA Purchasing Department, this year, due to factors such as price cuts, market incubation, and other factors, e-book sales have seen a qualitative leap, with monthly sales of around 200 units. When the e-book market started last year, it sold only a few months.

Insiders told reporters that from a short-term perspective, price cuts are a feasible measure, but in the long run, price cuts will not help e-books get rid of the difficulties they face.

In the e-book market, the entire industry has reached a consensus: a single reading function of e-books can not increase the user's adhesion, open up more entertainment functions for e-books, after all, is an important direction for future development.
