Is the refrigerator laid off? Scientists invent edible and preservative sensors

[Netease Smart News, October 1st] It is a much harder problem than people think to ensure that foods maintain a certain temperature during transportation - but the Swiss are solving this problem. They had previously invented a machine fruit that could be mixed in with real fruit. Recently, another research team has invented a biodegradable temperature sensor that can be stuck on food until you eat it.

Simply put, the problem is that manual testing of foods that need to maintain a certain temperature is a painful thing, but if you can monitor foods wirelessly, you can save a lot of time and effort.

To some extent, you can do this through RFID tags - but these tags use metals that are not recommended for use, and may even be toxic. The solution proposed by Giovanni Salvatore, a researcher at the ETH Zurich, is to use a material that humans can safely digest to make an ultra-thin sensor.

Today, he and his team published their research results in the academic journal Advanced Functional Materials. They successfully manufactured a sensor with a thickness of only 16 μm (human hair is approximately 100 μm thick). The sensor is made of magnesium, and the ETH Zurich stated in its press release that it is "a very important part of our diet." This is undeniable.

The materials used are also silicon dioxide and nitrides, which are harmless and are bound together by a degradable polymer made from corn and potato starch. It can be bent, stretched, or even rolled, but it can still work. (We still hope your food is okay.)

So you can put such sensors in randomly selected apples, fish, bananas, etc. and put them on trucks or ships. Then you can check the actual temperature of the food outside the refrigerated compartment (rather than the air above the fish stack). When they are delivered to their destination, I wish you have a good appetite! It will degrade in your body.

Of course, power supplies and wireless components are not biodegradable - they are placed elsewhere and connected to zinc cables (which may also be an important part of our daily diet). This is the problem - scientists only solved half of the problems. But it's better than nothing.
