Carbon arc gouging principle in welding processing

     In the welding process, if it is necessary to repair the defective parts of the welds which have been detected with pores, slag inclusions and cracks, it is often possible to use carbon arc gouging.

    In addition, in the case of the removal of excess edge material, the trimming of the edge (such as the groove for opening the welding) and the repair and utilization of the over-dragage parts in the production process, if the precision of the workpiece is not high or limited by the conditions of the production and processing site, it is inconvenient. When mechanical trimming is used, carbon arc gouging is also often used for processing.

    Carbon arc gouging equipment is mainly composed of power equipment, carbon arc gouging gun and carbon rod, air compressor and cable. Figure 9-1 shows the composition of carbon arc gouging equipment.

    Figure 9-2 shows a schematic diagram of carbon arc gouging. The utility model adopts a copper-plated carbon rod clamped on a carbon arc gouging tong as an electrode, and the workpiece is used as another pole. The electric arc is ignited to partially melt the metal, and the nozzle on the planer squirts the airflow to blow off the molten metal. To remove burrs and slag or cut blanks by grooving the edges of the blanks used for welding. Carbon arc gouging can be used to cut materials such as mild steel, stainless steel, cast iron, copper and aluminum.
