Driverless cars will become a new generation of mobile base stations

Today, we refer to smart devices such as smartphones as terminals because communication ends here. However, as the network continues to evolve, smart devices will no longer be the point of termination of communication (so strictly no longer referred to as "terminals"), but will be the starting point for a new generation of new forms of networks.

Wu Geng takes the driverless car as an example. He thinks that it will not only have the functions of the terminal (such as watching navigation maps), but also a mobile base station. That's why we call the driverless-related car networking technology V2X (Vehicle to Everything) instead of V2N (Vehicle to Network). Because V2X includes a variety of communication relationships between cars and people, cars and transportation infrastructure, cars and cars, it will become a new generation of mobile base stations.

The base stations are now fixed, but in the future the base station will be mobile, which will contain real technology. In the future, hundreds of millions of smart devices will also bring a huge number of mobile communication nodes. It can be imagined that the real large-scale technical development and difficulties are still only the beginning, and the subsequent development will have a lot of difficulties.

The application level of the network edge power assist device will no longer be limited by its own configuration.

Originally mentioned end-to-end, the main thing that people think of is the relationship between the cloud and the device. However, in the future, the changes in the network architecture are actually a large number of network edges that surround the middle. The end-to-end actually refers to Devices, Edge, and Cloud.

The reason why the network edge is required is because of the low latency of 5G. When the communication delay between the two computing platforms becomes infinitely low, the two become a platform, and it will be a simple matter to generate economic benefits.

Wu Geng said that what kind of application our smartphone can support today depends on the configuration of the mobile phone itself. In the future, when we can add the computing power and battery life of the other end to the mobile phone, the application level of the mobile phone will be Not the same day. New industrial upgrades, including industrial controls, driverlessness, and so on, are actually a convergence of communications and computing.

Therefore, regarding 5G, it will continue to extend the 4G network architecture, or the need to independently develop a new network architecture. In Intel's view, it is fundamentally: First, the end-to-end needs to be clear, including equipment and networks. Edge and cloud; Second, on this basis, the key to 5G is to find the best balance point in communication and computing. When the relationship between computing and communication becomes a multiplicative relationship, the entire end-to-end promotion of the global communications platform is leaping.

Wu Geng said: "To make the whole industry work and get through 5G end-to-end, this is a huge opportunity for the whole industry and Intel, and it is also a huge challenge."
