At last week's Global Display Technology Conference, Samsung demonstrated a dedicated ultra-high definition display for VR heads. The resolution was more than three times better than that of Oculus Rift and Vive.
The VR display achieves a resolution of 2,024 x 2,200 pixels on a 3.5-inch screen and a pixel density of 858PPI, which is almost twice that of the Rift and Vive 460PPI. The display also achieves a refresh rate of 90 Hz and a brightness of 100 nits. From the perspective of native pixels, this product has 3.4 times more pixels than other products.
At the conference site, the new display screen and the old products were compared on the Gear VR. The audience could feel the difference by watching the same high-definition picture in the head-display.

The new screen significantly reduces the so-called "window effect" while increasing the visibility of individual pixels.
Currently both Rift and Vive use the Samsung-supplied display with a single-pixel 1080×1200, 90Hz refresh rate. This means that the new display is likely to be applied to the next generation of high-end VR heads.
At the same time, Samsung has also created a monocular 1,440 x 1,280 display for smartphones for the Gear VR, but the screen aspect ratio cannot be applied to the head display.
And even if compared with Gear VR display, the resolution of the latest display is also more than 2.4 times higher, while the PPI has greatly improved.
