On January 11, Wuhan Xinxin completed the second environmental impact announcement of the expansion project. According to the EIA book, Wuhan Xinxin plans to invest 3.5 billion US dollars to expand its first 12-inch integrated circuit production line in the central region. By the end of 2013, the capacity will reach 45,000 pieces per month, which is three times that of the present.

Wuhan Xinxin (full name "Wuhan Xinxin Integrated Circuit Manufacturing Co., Ltd.") was incorporated in April 2006. In September 2008, the project was officially put into operation, ending the history of no “core” in central China.

At the end of October last year, the Donghu High-tech Zone Management Committee and SMIC International Integrated Circuit Manufacturing Co., Ltd. ("SMIC") signed a cooperation agreement to change the "hosting" model to a "joint venture" model (this newspaper reported) . In 3-5 years, the joint venture company will invest a total of 4.5 billion US dollars, mainly producing 40-65 nanometer memory chips, which is currently the most advanced chip products in China, most of which are supplied to the mainland market.

The data shows that Wuhan Xinxin now has a monthly production capacity of around 15,000 pieces. Industry insiders analyzed that the monthly production capacity reached 20,000 pieces, which basically kept the finances at a relatively healthy level. That is, Wuhan Xinxin is expected to start turning losses into profit this year.

The Donghu High-tech Zone Management Committee introduced that although it has not been profitable for many years, the establishment of Wuhan Xinxin and the construction of the 12-inch chip project have successfully promoted the accumulation of upstream and downstream industries in our province. So far, more than 20 integrated circuit design companies, more than 10 world semiconductor equipment suppliers, more than 10 raw material manufacturers, and more than 10 chemical suppliers have settled in Optics Valley.

After the completion of the expansion, Wuhan Xinxin will become the largest high-end chip production base in China. By then, the aggregation effect will be more obvious and will have a profound impact on the Wuhan semiconductor industry.
