Creating more credible virtual characters will further play an important role in our single-player VR experience, and Sony intends to use PlayStation VR to demonstrate their technology to make virtual characters more true at this year's GDC conference.
PlayStation VR debuted in 2014. Sony rarely focused on hardware specifications and details but focused more on VR development. Most of Sony's display at GDC this year will be a demonstration of a new VR technology from the PlayStation Magic Lab division, which has been focusing on heads-up work for the past several years.
This demonstration will focus on the "simple 3D program space behavior of VR characters", which roughly means that the virtual characters in the game can understand their own and the user's spatial position information so as to better interact with the user. According to Sony's description, these avatars "instill in a concept of shared space." They can understand the environment or the player's voice and movement. They can record the direction in which the user's eyes are looking and adjust their eyes, head and body.
These characters will only respond to what they see in their own eyes. They will blink and breathe in response to your actions. Users can turn this feature on or off to see how they compare to the traditional characters we see in games today.
Although Sony does not seem to announce any major VR games next week (perhaps in E3), the company will also debut its VR tracking solution, which is a new tool designed to solve the tracking problem of current solutions. There are also planned PSVR demos for the Unreal Engine 4 and Unity engines. They will also use Farpoint to showcase the upcoming PSVR Aim controller.
